Since I moved to Puerto Rico, my life long dream of being a beach bum came true! The beaches here are amazing and beautiful. The North shore of Puerto Rico has miles of beaches. They are all stunning and each one is different. Mar Chiquita (or Little Sea) is my favorite so far. It is a small cove of a beach protected from the rough Atlantic by a rocky wall. This breathtaking beach, in Manatí, is only about 45 minutes from San Juan and it’s a must see! You won’t regret venturing out a bit to the West.
The water on this natural pool is crystal clear, constantly refreshed with every wave that pushes from the Ocean through the channel. This oval-shaped, natural limestone cove is perfect for a beach day, snorkeling or surfing if you lucky you can even see manatees. It is possible to walk on all the rocks, however you need to be aware, the limestone rocks are slippery and sharp. Shoes are necessary if you want that perfect selfie and picture for Instagram. I wasn’t brave enough! but the views from the shore are spectacular anyway!
The beauty comes with some danger! You need to watch tide conditions. Due to the shape of the cove and the narrow area between the rocks where water comes in and goes out, there can be serious undertows. But there is no lifeguard on duty here, so swim at your own risk. Waves crash against the rock wall can be as high as 25 feet, rushing down like fierce waterfalls. The water is giving a beautiful but warning show. Staying at the shore gives you the best view.
The beach is free! Like most of the best places in Puerto Rico. Since it is a little further out it makes sense to make it a whole beach day and visit places around Manati ( later on about that) . You can pack up a picnic basket and there are a few food trucks serving food and drinks. Playa Mar Chiquita is a popular beach among locals it can get crowded so I would recommend getting there early so you know that you will find your perfect spot. There is enough parking. Enjoy!
Body conscious alert! Everything that is beautiful mostly comes with some hidden costs. Wearing bathing suits as I hear from my friends comes with a lot of stress. Especially nowadays where there is so much pressure and criticism when it comes to body and image. I felt I was always a bit above that and I loved myself they way I was… until I went trough some health changes. But I never felt bad about my body I took it as a natural step, natural change until I met with some criticism and funny and harsh comments about the way my body looks. The more I heard them the more they subconsciously started affecting me. The funniest thing is that the comments mostly come from women. Please girlies let’s don’t do it to each other. Why? Why do we prefer to put each other down than support one another? Why do we always want to be so perfect? What is perfect anyway? Everyone is different. Love yourself really. It’s the best thing to do for yourself to be happy.
The good thing that came out of it is my new lifestyle. I became more exercise and healthy lifestyle conscious! I exercise (I met amazing women at the gym where I go to) I eat healthier, I live a good life, I am happier. I never showed my body as much as I show it now. For the first time in my life I feel more sexy and confident. I even started to wear a thong to the beach. My body is not perfect but I love it the way it is. For those who don’t like it look away 😛 and people will always talk I do not care anymore! I recommend you the same! great feeling 🙂
